SVYC says it welcomes new members of all ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced sailors, and offers courses, training, racing, and boats to sail in. Training-course pages describe adult, teenager, children, family, and cadet weeks with tuition available from beginners to racers.
Training
SVYC states it has been an RYA Training Centre since 2001 and is an RYA-accredited Sail Training Academy. It offers sailing training plus RYA powerboat, instructor, VHF radio, first aid, and navigation courses, with course booking through the club calendar.
The official site says adults can give sailing a go or improve their skills in a range of club-owned boats, and it offers private lessons and tailored sessions bookable via the online calendar. I did not find a current public open-day page.
SVYC describes itself as family-oriented. Formal sailing courses start at age 8, with Sprits Club sailing-introduction sessions for ages 6 and 7, cadet training weeks for children and teenagers, and Cockles Club activities for ages 3 to 7 where a parent or grandparent is an SVYC member.

I did not find current official information about wheelchair access, adaptive sailing, disabled access, or access-needs support. The training booking terms require participants to swim at least 25m unaided and be confident in the water, but this is not enough to determine accessibility support.

Selected official prices are published: single-handed club boats GBP 46 for 1 day, GBP 125 for 3 days, GBP 200 for 5 days; double-handed club boats GBP 50 for 1 day, GBP 160 for 3 days, GBP 255 for 5 days; Sprits Club early bird GBP 50 per session; private lessons using club boats early bird GBP 60 per person per 2-hour lesson; tailored sessions early bird GBP 50 per person per 3-hour session; Cockles Club 2026 GBP 175 per child. Membership fees were not found on the public pages checked.
SVYC says members can sail without owning boats. The club owns 13 Seaview Mermaid keelboats and a large fleet of dinghies available for members to charter or hire, including Optimists, Teras, Picos, Toppers, Lasers, Fevas, Visions, Buzzes, and Dart 16 catamarans. Course booking guidance says club boats must be booked separately if needed.
