Island Cruising Club describes itself as open to all levels of experience, including total beginners, and says the club exists to help people get on the water without buying a boat. For independent boat use, new members must show competence through an RYA Day Skipper, RYA Level 2 keelboat, or PB2 powerboat certificate, or pass an ICC skills assessment, so complete beginners should expect to use the club as a route into supported/qualified sailing rather than immediately taking boats out alone.

Training

Current official pages support training help, but not a current dated practical-course programme. The boat-hire FAQ says ICC can arrange RYA tuition for members and crew who do not have an RYA qualification. The terms page refers to RYA training bookings and course cancellation terms, and the booking site lists live online theory courses plus one current RYA practical-training-category item for skippered charter/day sailing. Old 2024 practical-course products were not treated as current availability.
