Greenwich Yacht Club is suitable for beginners. The official Learn to Sail page says the club can help people go from complete beginner to racing club dinghies, crewing on a member cruiser, or sailing their own boat, and suggests Dinghy RYA Level 1 for people who have never sailed before. The dinghy fleet page says new members who have never sailed before are welcome, that informal cruises are a way to try sailing for the first time, and that offering to crew with an experienced club helm is a way to get on the water. The Join GYC page says applicants do not need to own a boat.

Training

The club is an RYA-accredited training centre. Its official Learn to Sail page lists Dinghy RYA Level 1 and 2, Powerboat Level 1, Level 2 and Safety Boat, keelboat, trot boat and race officer courses, plus partner-delivered RYA Day Skipper Theory, VHF SRC Radio and First Aid courses. The club history page also says the club is an official RYA Training Centre offering shore-based and practical courses. The current RYA listing for Thames Active at Greenwich Yacht Club confirms beginner Powerboat Level 1 and Level 2 courses at the same address.
