Beginner
Girton Sailing Club is suitable for beginners: its training page says people can learn to sail a dinghy whether or not they are members, whether or not they have any experience, and without their own boat or specialist clothing/equipment. The social sailing page also describes Saturday Social Sailing as relaxed, with help available for rigging and sailing questions, including for a complete newbie.
Training
GSC says it is an RYA Training Centre and offers courses for members and non-members. Current training content lists 2026 courses including RYA Dinghy Sailing Levels 1, 2 and 3, RYA Youth Sailing Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4, RYA Start Racing, RYA Powerboat Level 1 and 2, RYA Safety Boat and First Aid. The downloadable 2026 training schedule lists Start Sailing on 27-28 June 2026 and an RYA Safety Boat Course on 20-21 June 2026.
Taster· Unclear
No current, future-dated beginner taster session was found on the official pages checked. The 2026 training schedule lists an Open Day on 30 May 2026, but that date is before this 12 June 2026 check and is not treated as current availability.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The club presents itself as a friendly family club. Membership content says sailing family membership covers one or two adults and dependent children under 18, and the memberships page says sponsored junior membership is new for 2026 for under-18s with a nominated full-member sponsor and parent/guardian agreement. Training content also lists RYA Youth Sailing Stages 1-4, and social sailing says junior sailing is actively encouraged.
Access
The club advertises Sailability and says it runs RYA-affiliated Sailability sessions in season, with adapted, supported boating and a focus since 2020 on people with learning disabilities and neuro-divergent conditions. It also says the clubhouse has accessibility provision. Mobility access is uncertain: the Sailability page says the club does not yet have a functional lift for certain mobilities.

Prices

Current visible membership pricing includes Sailing Family - Year at GBP 302 and Sailing Single - Year at GBP 212, each with a GBP 25 joining fee. The pricing page also lists sailing summer and winter options, paddle sport options, boat berths at GBP 10 per berth, and other membership options by enquiry. The membership page also says secure compound boat berths are GBP 10 per boat berth for sailing members. The 2026 training schedule lists the RYA Safety Boat Course at GBP 40. Early Bird plans visible on the pricing page are labelled 2025 fees, so they should be treated as stale or uncertain for current pricing.

Membership

Official site describes Girton as a friendly family club and provides membership and training contacts.

Boat hire
Club boat hire is evidenced but details are limited: the membership page lists discount rates for Club Boat Hire as a full club member benefit. The training page also says learners do not need their own boat or specialist clothing/equipment and lists the training fleet. No current public boat-hire tariff or booking process was found.
