Keelboat sailing, Cruising, Social sailing, Taster sessions, Occasional racing

Beginner
RCSSC explicitly welcomes people who just fancy having a go, says no sailing experience is needed, and says its Squibs were selected primarily for people wanting to learn or have an undemanding sail. The club notes the Soling is not recommended for novices.
Training
RCSSC says it can train new sailors or develop existing skills, and describes support and guidance from helms. I found no current RCSSC claim that it runs RYA courses itself; RYA training appears to be through the separate Rutland Sailing School at the host club.
Taster
RCSSC has 2026 keelboat sailing taster sessions with morning and afternoon slots, limited places, CSSC-managed booking and payments. A current CSSC event page says tasters are tailored to guests' experience and needs.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors· Unclear
RCSSC says CSSC linked membership can allow a member to sponsor friends or family aged over 18, and taster guests may bring friends and family to watch from the clubhouse/veranda. I found no current RCSSC junior sailing provision or under-18 participation details.
Access
RCSSC and CSSC taster information ask guests to flag personal needs such as mobility issues and say tasters do not require much physical strength or mobility. RCSSC also says only basic fitness is needed for membership sailing, but people must be able to get in and out of the boat, move around, and walk about 200 metres; it advises discussing doubts with the membership officer. Rutland Sailing Club states its clubhouse facilities are wheelchair accessible.

Prices

Membership: RCSSC membership currently GBP 200 per year, with no other RCSSC fees no matter how many times you sail. CSSC membership is also required and is stated by RCSSC as GBP 5.99 per month, subject to change; the club joining PDF says CSSC is currently around GBP 55. Taster listing: GBP 27.50 for CSSC members and GBP 39.00 for non-CSSC members.

Membership

Official site describes a small Civil Service Sailing Association club with corporate membership of Rutland Sailing Club, sailing club-owned keelboats on Rutland Water.

Boat hire
RCSSC membership includes access to club keelboats rather than public boat hire. The club says all sailing equipment is provided, boats are available to book through its online booking system, and members use club boats rather than their own boats.
