The RYA Training Centre overview says adult Beginner Level 1 is aimed at absolute beginners and introduces sailing, launching and recovery, while youth stages 1 and 2 cover launching, recovery, steering, parts of the boat, basic sailing and collision avoidance. Courses are open to non-members and members.
Training
Brightlingsea says its RYA Training Centre runs courses for both non-members and members and is recognised and inspected by the RYA. The 2026 schedule lists adult two-day RYA Level 1, 2 or 3 courses, youth four-day RYA stages and powerboat Level 2.
The checked official pages did not show a current public taster session, open day, or try-sailing date. The club does offer beginner RYA courses and cadet nights, but no standalone current taster offer was confirmed.
The Cadets page says Brightlingsea cadets are 10 to 18 year olds who want to try or already love sailing, with Tuesday cadet nights through summer, race training, club racing opportunities and club boats for suitably experienced cadets. Membership fees include cadet, junior and family-related categories.
Access
The official home page says the club is an approved RYA Sailability centre offering facilities for disabled sailors. The legal accessibility page is website-focused, so practical access details should still be confirmed with the club.

The 2026 membership page lists Adult Individual GBP 194, Couple GBP 236, Adult in full-time education under 22 GBP 65, Cadet GBP 65, Junior GBP 65, Senior GBP 97, Senior Couple GBP 118, and other categories. The training schedule lists 2026 adult two-day courses at GBP 245 or GBP 225 for members, youth four-day courses at GBP 198, and Powerboat Level 2 at GBP 290 or GBP 255 for members.
The Use of Club Boats page says club members may request use of club boats by emailing learnsailing@sailbrightlingsea.com, subject to committee discretion, existing club activities, safety rules, suitable conditions and patrol-boat cover. This is member club-boat use, not public hire.
