Beginner
Complete beginners can start via sailing tasters, 2-hour introductory sailing sessions, and RYA beginner training. YDSC states it is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and offers complete beginner courses, but it is not a commercial provider: regular training and RYA courses require membership, with non-members allowed one taster session without joining.
Training
Training is available. The club says it is a Recognised RYA Training Centre offering sailing, windsurfing, powerboat and instructor training, including RYA Sailing Level 1, 2 and 3, Powerboat Level 2, instructor courses, adult and junior courses, beginner and improver sessions. Booking is required in advance. Courses are primarily for members; anyone can access courses if they are a member or join for at least three months.
Taster
Taster and introductory sailing options are available. The site lists free non-member dinghy sailing taster sessions for Saturday 18 April 2026, with 45-minute sessions in a large dinghy with an instructor and kit provided. It also lists 2-hour introductory sailing sessions on several 2026 dates with a requested GBP 10 per person donation. Places must be booked in advance and first sessions do not require membership, but further sessions require joining.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
Junior and family suitability is supported. The club has a youth sailing section, Saturday beginner and improver pathways, youth race development, Youth Club sessions for sailors aged 12 to 17, and RYA Young Sailors Holiday Courses for children aged 10 to 15. Family membership and family day-use pricing are listed, and the clubhouse has a children's corner. Some youth activities require existing ability, such as Youth Club requiring RYA Youth Stage 3 or equivalent triangular-course ability.
Access· Unclear
The site confirms accessible facilities including disabled toilets, disabled changing/shower facilities, and a wheelchair-friendly lift. It also notes that craft suitable for disabled use can be exempt from one catamaran length restriction by committee approval. No official page found clearly confirms a dedicated accessible sailing, Sailability, adaptive sailing programme, or support process for access needs.
