Beginner
Complete beginners can start via RYA Adult Level 1, which states assumed knowledge is none and minimum age is 16. Junior Stage 1 is also marked complete beginners for children meeting the age and membership requirements. The club also describes the sheltered River Yar as an excellent place for learning to sail, but several activities require YSC membership or supervision.
Training
The club is a recognised RYA Dinghy Training Centre and provides Adult Dinghy Levels 1 and 2, RYA Youth Scheme Stages 1 to 4, advanced modules including Start Racing and Sailing with Spinnakers, and RYA powerboat courses. Adult Level 1 and Level 2 take place at YSC Clubhouse and River and include club boat hire. Junior training is for club members and includes Stage courses, after-school club activity, and youth development routes.
The sailing overview says Family Fun Fridays offer short taster sails to all members of a family, especially parents who normally do not sail. The additional junior activities page describes Family Fun as a chance for the whole family to be on the water with patrol boats. The membership page says those unsure about joining may take one month of Temporary Membership, but temporary members cannot access training courses or hire club-owned dinghies. No clearly public non-member taster booking page was found.
The club has junior and youth programmes, Youth Development Squad, Junior Race Training, junior RYA courses from age 8 subject to membership and parental involvement, and an After School Club for young YSC members aged 8 to 17. Family membership is listed, Family Fun offers family on-water activity, and Swallows and Amazons is described as a family/junior sailing and camping event with adult safety cover.

Annual 2026 membership subscriptions are listed as Family GBP 109, Couple GBP 91, Adult GBP 60, Young Person GBP 19, and Single parent with 1 or 2 children GBP 80. Adults aged 21 and over pay a GBP 50 entry fee unless joining at a Club Open Day. Boat park/mooring annual charges are listed: launch trolley grass or lower Pico rack GBP 114, Pico upper rack GBP 62, Oppie rack GBP 91, vertical dinghy rack GBP 66, and mooring GBP 114. Temporary membership is described, and the sailing overview mentions a special Winter Series temporary membership rate of GBP 15 for the month.
