Can a beginner start here?

Dinghy sailing, Club racing, Cruising, Training, Junior sailing, Social sailing

Beginner
Complete beginners appear supported through RYA adult dinghy training that covers starting to sail, plus Open Day activity for people who have never sailed. The site also describes Adult Rookies as for new and improving sailors and lists novice/improver Saturday racing, but routine course participation is mainly framed around club or RYA members, with non-RYA courses for non-members only when published and space-limited.
Training
Wilsonian SC states it is an RYA Recognised Training Centre. RYA training courses are open to existing Wilsonian SC members and held through the year by qualified instructors; non-RYA courses may be available to non-members when published. Adult National Dinghy Sailing Scheme courses are listed at GBP 75 and cover beginner through advanced topics; youth sailing, powerboat, safety boat, first aid and instructor training are also listed, with some prices on application.
Taster
The clearest taster route is the official annual Open Day, listed for Saturday 2 May 2026 from 10.30am to 4pm. It invites visitors, including people who have never sailed, and lists RIB rides, dinghy sailing with experienced helms, experts on and off the water, club tours, food and drink, and RYA courses scheduled after the Open Day. Visitors become members for the day for insurance. No separate Open Day visitor price was found.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
Juniors and families are clearly supported. The site describes Saturday Skimmers as the junior club every Saturday morning, junior training on most Saturday mornings, and Junior Week for junior full or provisional members aged from 5, subject to sailing experience and a trial session, to 17. Family membership is available for cohabiting partners or a single parent and children under 18, with children required to be accompanied by at least one adult on that membership.
Access
The official site confirms some access provisions: disabled parking/drop-off guidance on the contact page, and changing, shower and toilet facilities for disabled persons on the about page. It does not state an accessible sailing, Sailability, adaptive equipment, hoist, or supported-sailing programme, so sailing-specific accessibility remains unknown.
