The club says the River Tamar is a place to begin a sailing adventure, that no previous sailing experience is necessary for dinghy sailing, and that new participants can attend up to 3 Friday evening dinghy training trial sessions before joining.
Training
Friday evening sail training runs from the first week of April through the summer until the end of September, starting at 17:45, with spaces limited and capacity to be checked with the Dinghy Officer. The club is not a recognised training establishment and does not issue RYA qualifications. It says the training operates to RYA guidance, with RYA-qualified Senior Instructors and Dinghy Instructors plus club-trained Assistant Instructors.
A free Temporary Member option allows people to attend up to 3 Friday evening dinghy training sessions before committing to club membership, after registering via the membership page with contact and next-of-kin details.
The club caters for all ages, and Friday evening sailing is open to all ages rather than being restricted to juniors. It describes itself as family friendly, offers Youth membership for ages 8 to 18 and Family membership, and says under-10s are welcome if willing and able, while noting they may get cold more quickly.
Access
The site is wheelchair accessible and the Boathouse has a Doc M-compliant accessible WC. On-the-water access is limited: the river is tidal, there is no pontoon, and the club does not have adapted boats or equipment to help people with restricted mobility get onto the water. 2026 membership fees are listed: Adult GBP 47, Concessionary GBP 17, Youth GBP 17, Family GBP 65, Social GBP 21, and free Temporary Member for 3 trial Friday evening dinghy training sessions. Friday Evening Sail Training annual fees are listed from GBP 30 for 1 trainee to GBP 105 for 6 trainees. Mooring and tender/dinghy storage fees are also published.
Official site describes a family-friendly sailing club in the Tamar Valley; the Weir Quay Community Watersports Hub provides the boat park and boathouse used by the sailing club and gig club.
The dinghy page says the club owns and operates 32 dinghies used for instruction, and that they can also be used when attending club events or hired from the club on a daily basis for a modest fee. The reviewed pages did not show the daily hire amount.
