Beginner
The club says applications are welcomed from inexperienced people who wish to learn to sail. It also promotes RYA Level 1 and 2 training for new sailors and a Better Sailing programme that includes mentoring for beginners and novice sailors.
Training
Thornbury Sailing Club describes itself as an RYA Training Centre. It lists a combined RYA Level 1 and 2 course each spring, provisional 2026 course dates, a TSC familiarisation session, RYA Level 3 Better Sailing options, and an ongoing Better Sailing development programme for members.
Taster· Unclear
I did not find a current visible official page clearly advertising taster sessions, open days, or a try-sailing session for non-members. The current joining page suggests prospective members visit before applying or come at a suitable calendar time.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The joining page lists Family membership for two adult members and immediate family members under 16, plus Junior membership for ages 16 to 18 with an adult acting in loco parentis. The sail training page says courses follow the relevant RYA Adult and Youth syllabus. I did not find a current dedicated junior programme page.
Access· Unclear
I did not find current visible official information about disability access, step-free access, adapted sailing, or specific access needs. The location page does state pedestrians can use a half-mile tarmac road and car visitors need prior arrangements because the access gate is locked, but that is not enough to confirm accessibility provision.
