SCYC says it can help people develop an interest in sailing, power boating or cruising. Its dinghy classes page says sailors of all ages and abilities are welcome, including novices, and that August coaching runs from beginners through to people improving racing skills. Keelboat and Squib class notes also describe chances to join crews or organise a sail, so beginners appear to have routes in through club fleets rather than a single beginner programme.

It names Hydro Abersoch as a fully certified RYA Training Centre offering activities from beginners to more experienced participants, including sailing and powerboating. The club page presents this as affiliated training rather than clearly stating that SCYC itself runs RYA courses directly.
