Royal Ulster Yacht Club is a historic Bangor yacht club on Belfast Lough, with keelboat/yacht racing, cruising, RYA training, Bangor Regatta and visitor facilities.

Start

Can a beginner start here?

Yacht racing, Keelboat racing, Cruising, Cruises in company, RYA training, Bangor Regatta, Race management, Visiting yachts

Beginner
RUYC shows beginner pathways but with caveats: its Crew Finder asks people who have always wanted to learn to sail a yacht to apply so the Sailing Committee can try to find them a racing crew place, and the membership application notes preference for active sailors or people with a desire to take up sailing. Formal courses are not currently scheduled and the 2026 Try Sail Day is cancelled.
Training
The official training page says Royal Ulster Yacht Club does not currently have any courses scheduled, although the site has a Training section and refers generally to RYA training courses elsewhere.
Taster
RUYC has a Try Sail Day 2026 page, but it says the event has been cancelled and may be arranged on a future date. The 2026 sailing programme also listed Try-Sail on 25 April 2026, so this should not be treated as currently available.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The membership page lists Junior membership and says that where both parents pay the appropriate Inport or Associate subscription, children under 18 may become Junior Associates without paying a subscription until 1 January after their 18th birthday.
Access
For the cancelled Try Sail Day, RUYC states that the marina currently does not have accessible boarding facilities for embarking onto yachts or transferring into RIBs, so participation would be restricted to people able to navigate boarding and transfer steps. No wider clubhouse accessibility statement was found on the official pages checked.

Prices

No current membership, training, taster, boat hire, or sailing participation prices were found on the official pages checked. The membership page says to contact the Club Office for current subscription rates.

Membership

Official site describes membership, a full annual sailing/racing programme, cruises in company, RYA training courses and visitor access for yachtsmen and women.

Boat hire· Unclear
No current official boat hire, dinghy hire, or member club-boat-use offer was found on the official pages checked. The Crew Finder route may help people find a racing crew place, but that is not a hire offer.
