RTYC shows some beginner-friendly routes, but not a broad learn-to-sail offer for all ages. The Navigation School describes RYA Day Skipper as a comprehensive introduction for inexperienced skippers, and the Academy says experience is not essential for ages 15 to 22, with safety training before going on the water and yacht crewing to learn sailing.
Training
RTYC states it has fully affiliated RYA training status and runs Navigation School courses. Current pages list First Aid, Day Skipper, Yachtmaster, planned Powerboat 2, and an RYA VHF online/SRC course, with enrolment by form or email to the Navigation School.
No current general taster session or open-day availability was found on the official pages checked. The Academy page still mentions an Academy open day to be announced in April 2024, so it was not treated as current availability.
RTYC has a youth/young-adult Academy for people aged 15 to 22 interested in sailing, racing, cruising, or a superyacht-industry pathway. The membership page also publishes a Family Member category, but no separate younger-child junior sailing programme was found.

Membership prices are published to September 2026: Friends of RTYC GBP 95/year, Individual GBP 325/year, Family GBP 500/year, Crew GBP 125/year, Full Member under 35 GBP 175/year, Interim GBP 325/year, Joint Interim GBP 500/year, and Overseas appears inconsistently as both GBP 500/year and GBP 325/year. Training prices found: Day Skipper or Yachtmaster theory GBP 430 each; VHF theory GBP 100 member or GBP 130 non-member, plus separate GBP 76 RYA fee.
No current official boat hire or club boat-use offer was found. RTYC does show crewing opportunities through racing, cruising, and the Academy, but that is not the same as boat hire.
