Margate Yacht Club clearly supports beginners. The official training page says no previous sailing experience is needed to become a member and that first-time sailors can take club training courses. The RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2 page describes Level 1 as for people with no prior dinghy-sailing knowledge or experience, and a 2026 official news item says the Level 1 course is ideal for complete beginners.
Training
Training is clearly available. The official site says MYC organises sessions with RYA qualified instructors and lists RYA Level 1 Start Sailing, RYA Level 2 Basic Skills, Powerboat Level 2, Safety Boat and Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1-4. The 2026 Level 1 and Level 2 course pages describe two-day RYA courses, with Level 1 on 27-28 June 2026 and Level 2 on 25-26 July 2026 plus a spare day on 1 August 2026.
No current official evidence was found for public taster sessions, open days, try-sailing sessions or a beginner trial session. The official site confirms beginner RYA courses, youth training, informal coaching and member routes into sailing, but those do not confirm a current taster-session offer.

The club supports juniors and families. The official homepage says members can join as an individual or as a family and that MYC has a thriving youth squad with weekly training for ages 8 to 16. The 2026 welcome pack says the club is an RYA OnBoard Club, lists RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stages 1-4, and says the Wednesday Youth Squad for 8-16-year-old members runs May to August.

The RYA Dinghy Level 1 & 2 page lists each Level 1 or Level 2 course at GBP 250 for non-members, including one year of single adult membership, and GBP 150 for current members. The 2026 welcome pack says youth squad sessions cost GBP 5 including RYA certification and kit/equipment, and club boats are available to members at GBP 5 per session.
Member club-boat hire is available, not unrestricted public hire. The official booking page has a Club Boats section marked member only and lists boats including Bahia, H12, H12.2, H15, Laser 2000 and Tera boats. The 2026 welcome pack says members do not need to own a boat, club boats are available for hire to members at GBP 5 per session, and new members must be assessed before using any club boats for the first time.
