The official FAQ says people who have never sailed before can join all events, including trainings and regattas, and that alumni will teach them on the go. The yacht qualifications page also says there is no formal qualification required to participate in yacht races and recommends Competent Crew or weekend sails for people who have never sailed before.

Training

The club says it organises on-campus and online theory courses plus off-site practical courses for yachts and dinghies. Dinghy training is through Westminster Boating Base for RYA Levels 1 and 2, and yacht training routes include in-person theory with First Class Sailing, online theory with Trafalgar Sailing, and Competent Crew or Day Skipper practical courses with Trafalgar Sailing.
