Hornsea Sailing Club presents Hornsea Mere as an ideal lake for beginner sailors, citing over 250 acres of navigable water and a maximum depth of only 2.5 metres. The About the Club page says newcomers can get started with boats and equipment matching their ambitions, budgets and crew size, and that fellow sailors are eager to help.

The official Learn to Sail page links a learn-to-sail flyer and a 2026 Hornsea Pirates programme PDF. The public 2026 calendar lists future Hornsea Pirates courses on 27-31 July, 10-14 August and 24-28 August 2026, each 10:00-13:00 with online booking shown. I found no current official public page text confirming RYA course status or adult course dates.
I found no current official public taster session, open day, try-sailing session or beginner open day offer. The current public calendar shows regular sailing, racing, picnic/regatta events and Hornsea Pirates courses, but not a general taster/open day.
The official membership page has family membership categories covering children under 18, including family membership with boat package and family club membership with a racked junior boat package. The About page says new junior members are particularly encouraged. The 2026 calendar also lists future Hornsea Pirates courses.

The official 2026 membership page lists membership prices: Individual membership/water fees/boat parking package GBP 230; Family membership/water fees/family boat package GBP 240; Young Adult membership GBP 100; Student membership GBP 100; Family Club membership/water fees/racked junior boat package GBP 100; Non Boat Owning Individual GBP 60; Non Boat Owning Family GBP 70; Non Boat Owning Student or Young Adult GBP 50; Life membership GBP 0. Additional boat fees are GBP 90 per boat for individual, family, student, young adult and life memberships, and GBP 50 for junior racked boats.
I found no current official evidence of sailing dinghy hire or public club boat hire. The official boat-allowed page says only mono-hull sailing dinghies, specified rental rowing boats and specified club safety boats are permitted on Hornsea Mere, and the membership page prices focus on membership, water fees, boat parking and additional boat fees.
