Filey Sailing Club says anyone is welcome to join and that new members do not need to own a boat or know anything about sailing. Its 2026 Learn to Sail booking page describes the five-day RYA dinghy course as suitable for beginners, with adult RYA Level 1 and 2 and youth stages available. The dinghy course has requirements including confidence around water, physical fitness, being over 12 years old and being able to follow instruction.
Training
Current 2026 evidence shows RYA dinghy training and powerboat training. The home page says 2026 dinghy and powerboat courses are bookable, with Learn to Sail in July and August. The August 2026 events page lists a Taster Day on Monday 31 August, and the event detail page confirms it as a Taster Day. The Learn to Sail booking page says prior attendance at a Filey SC taster session is highly recommended before booking. Juniors
The club describes itself as family friendly. Family membership includes the first named member's spouse or partner and children or wards aged under 18. Student membership is open to ages 8 to 18 and full-time students, with parent or guardian approval required for under-18s. The powerboat page lists PB2 refresher free to FSC members, safety boat free to members with possible non-member availability at GBP180 depending on demand, and Powerboat Level 2 at GBP260 non-member or GBP52 member. Boat hire
The club describes controlled member equipment access rather than public boat hire. Its about page says full members who reach a suitable level of proficiency and do not own boats may be able to request to borrow club boats or boards when not used for training. The dinghy training page says adult Level 2 or youth Stage 3 course completers may use club dinghies for further practice on Club Sundays for the rest of the season, with instructor permission and sign-out required.
