Beginner
Fisherrow Yacht Club explicitly welcomes beginners and says it caters for boat owners and non-owners. Its start-sailing and training pages describe a beginner pathway through combined RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 training, with Level 1 for getting afloat under supervision and Level 2 for sailing a dinghy independently in fair conditions.
Training
FYC says it is an RYA Recognised Training Centre and offers adult dinghy training from Level 1 and 2 through Level 3, Seamanship, Start Racing, and Club Racing. It also lists powerboat Level 1 and 2, direct assessment, Safety Boat, VHF radio, and First Aid. The course-vacancies page lists a 2026 schedule including adult beginner Level 1 and 2, young-person beginner Stage 1 and 2, adult racing/improver sessions, Powerboat Level 2, Safety Boat, and VHF interest.
Taster
The training page describes Discover Sailing / Rediscover Sailing taster sessions but says the club will not be running Discover Sailing this year because the Fisherrow Harbour Festival has been cancelled. A separate Discover Sailing page found on the site is dated Saturday 10 May 2024, so it was not treated as current availability.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
FYC teaches RYA junior Level 1-4 courses, taking juniors from total beginner to sailing solo or with friends, and says students as young as 8 are welcome where swimming ability and water confidence are suitable. The junior page says juniors and families can access member-only RYA learn-to-sail modules and then practise during club events when a safety boat is on the water. Membership options include Family membership for two adults plus family members under 17, Junior membership under 17, and Individual under 23.
Access· Unclear
The start-sailing page says sailing is open to all ages and abilities and does not require being super fit, but the checked official pages did not provide specific accessibility information such as wheelchair access, accessible toilets, adaptive sailing, or support for particular access needs.

Costs

Costs, membership, and boats

Prices

Published membership fees are Individual £120, Individual under 23 £60, Family £170, Junior £35, Associate £50, and Group POA. Club-boat use is listed as £140 per year, discounted to £70 for the first year of club membership. Dinghy parking in the yard is £140 and promenade storage is £75. The start-sailing page says an RYA Dinghy Level 1 and 2 course is £320, but its stated first-year total appears arithmetically inconsistent with the listed components, so users should confirm totals with the club.

Membership

Official navigation lists start-sailing, discover-sailing, training, dinghy courses and junior-club pages; contact/find-us page confirms the Musselburgh clubhouse.

Boat hire
FYC has a fleet of club dinghies and Kinsman keelboats for members to use, subject to safety conditions. Listed boats include RS Fevas, Laser Picos, Lasers, an RS Vision, 2000 dinghies, a Laser Vortex, and Kinsman keelboats. This is member club-boat use rather than public boat hire; club boats may only be used when a safety boat is in attendance and other conditions are met.
