Beginner
Ely Sailing Club says it is open to all levels of experience and confidence, welcomes complete novices, and offers beginner RYA Level 1 adult and Stage 1 cadet courses with no prior experience required.
Training
The club is an RYA recognised/approved training centre. Its 2026 sailing course page lists beginner weekends, RYA Level 1 for adults, RYA Stage 1 or 2 for cadets aged 8-16, and wider RYA sailing courses.
Taster
The club says it holds an annual May open day for people who want to try sailing and also invites people who want to get a feel for sailing before booking a course to contact the membership secretary to arrange a weekend sail or skills recap.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The club describes itself as family orientated and family friendly. It has cadets aged 18 and under, sailing families, RYA Youth training every year, cadet membership categories, and cadets are encouraged to try sailing and join social/racing sessions.
Access· Unclear
The club provides accessibility guidance and asks people to contact the Membership Secretary, Vice Commodore, or Training Principal about access needs. It also notes site limitations: stairs are involved to access the lake and there is no specifically adapted boat; model yachting is suggested as a no-stairs option. This is useful access information but not enough to mark the venue broadly accessible for sailing.
