Beginner
The new membership page says the community spans absolute beginners to elite racers. The adult sailing courses page is explicitly for people who want to learn to sail or are not sure where to start, with RYA Start Sailing Level 1 suitable for complete beginners.
Training
BCYC says it is an RYA-recognised Training Centre and Champion Club with qualified RYA dinghy, windsurf and powerboat instructors. Adult sailing courses include a five-day RYA Level 1 and 2 course over two weekends in April/May, two-day weekend courses June to September, family-focused courses in summer holidays, and Saturday improver sessions.
Taster
The Have A Go page says BCYC offers taster sessions, lessons and courses for sailing and other watersports. The Water Sports Beginners, Summer Holiday & Taster Sessions page lists a two-hour sailing taster for up to two sharing a boat, suitable for all ages, arranged at a convenient date and time via training@bcyc.org.uk.

2026/27 membership fees include Adult Watersports GBP 230, 2 Adult Watersports GBP 305, 1 Adult Watersports with Family Children GBP 252, 2 Adult Watersports with Family Children GBP 325, Young Person GBP 95, Adult Non-Watersports GBP 80 and 1 Adult Non-Watersports with Family Children GBP 105. Training prices are published through the 2026 tuition price list and Eventbrite. Member boat hire examples include double-handers GBP 20/day, single-handers GBP 15/day, junior boats from GBP 7.50 and RS Feva/Race Topper GBP 10.
