Beginner
BBC Yacht Club says it welcomes beginners and experienced sailors, advises new sailors to start with a weekend or mid-week trip, and says most trips are open to anyone new to sailing or the club. Some racing events are explicitly unsuitable for complete beginners.
Training
The club is an RYA recognised training establishment offering discounted theory and practical courses to members, including Competent Crew, Day Skipper, Coastal Skipper, Yachtmaster preparation, First Aid, Sea Survival and Radar.
Taster
The official pages describe Try Sail trips before committing to join. Try Sail trips cost the normal member crewing fee for trips of three days or less, with a GBP 25 per day guest surcharge from the fourth day onward.

Prices

BBC Yacht Club membership is GBP 50 per year, in addition to BBC Club membership. Sailing trip fees for members include Ariel weekend cruising GBP 70 per day, Prospero weekend cruising GBP 55 per day, Ariel midweek cruising GBP 49 per day, Prospero midweek cruising GBP 35 per day, Ariel week cruising GBP 370, Prospero week cruising GBP 260, Ariel summer cruise week GBP 414, racing GBP 80 per day on Ariel and GBP 65 per day on Prospero, RYA practical course GBP 121 per day on Ariel, midweek non-RYA training GBP 73.50 per day on Ariel and GBP 52.50 per day on Prospero, and weekend non-RYA training GBP 105 per day on Ariel and GBP 82.50 per day on Prospero. Temporary members pay a GBP 25 per day guest surcharge on top of crewing fees.

Boat hire
The club owns two yachts, Ariel of Hamble and Prospero of Hamble, and members/temporary members join crewed club trips with a qualified skipper and mate. This is club yacht use through organised trips, not bareboat public hire.
