St Ives Sailing Club is an active north Cornwall dinghy sailing and racing club on St Ives Bay.

Start

Can a beginner start here?

Dinghy sailing, Dinghy racing, Cruising, Social sailing

Beginner
The club says complete novices can come sailing locally, welcomes sailors of all ages and abilities, and says people without formal dinghy training or helming experience can volunteer to crew with members. It also now hosts an RYA training centre aimed at teaching locals to sail.
Training
St Ives Sailing Club says it is home to St Ives Sailing School and has an RYA training centre. Listed courses include taster sessions, refresher sessions, day sailing, RYA Level 1 Start Sailing, Level 2 Basic Skills, Level 3 Better Sailing, sailing with spinnakers, and seamanship skills.
Taster
The official site says visitors can experience sailing as a taster sail with a club member in a club boat, and the RYA training page lists taster sessions among the courses taught. Local potential members may be able to sail for free after signing up as a no-charge member before sailing, depending on ability and conditions.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The club publishes Family and Junior membership categories. Current official prices list Full Family membership at GBP 130 and Full Junior under-18 membership at GBP 30; the membership portal also defines family membership as including parents and children under 18 or still in full-time education.
Access· Unclear
The membership portal says membership is open without discrimination, including disability. However, current official pages checked did not provide practical access-needs information such as step-free access, accessible toilets/changing, adapted sailing support, accessible parking, or how to discuss specific requirements before visiting.

Prices

Published membership prices include Adult Sailor/Full Adult GBP 75, Family/Full Family GBP 130, Shoreline/non-sailing GBP 25, Junior/Full Junior GBP 30, Out of County GBP 35, Student GBP 30 on the membership portal, and Kayak Member GBP 145 on the portal. The club site lists boat/dinghy storage at GBP 200, kayak/windsurfer storage at GBP 70, and short-term dinghy pen storage for Out of County members at GBP 35 per week subject to availability. Club boat use is listed as GBP 10 per boat per session on the Join page, while the FAQ still refers to a GBP 5 donation; treat the current amount as needing confirmation because the official pages conflict.

Membership

Official site describes an annual membership club with handicap fleet racing on Saturdays and Wednesdays, plus social media links.

Boat hire
Club boats are available to members rather than hired to the general public. The club says members can reserve a club boat for club sailing events when the safety boat is on the water, with an additional contribution payable on the day. The FAQ says insurance does not allow boat hire, so this should be presented as member club-boat use, not commercial hire.
