Beginner
The club describes itself as a small, friendly, informal sea-sailing club and its 13 June 2026 open-day page explicitly says beginners are welcome, but also warns that sea sailing is generally more suitable for intermediate to advanced sailors and that novice sailing depends on conditions. The same page says the club has links with inland clubs for training if someone is completely new to sailing.
Training· Unclear
No current RYA course, learn-to-sail course, or structured beginner training programme was found on the checked official pages. The training-days page says race training days are free to members and non-members, but also says there are no upcoming events. The open-day page says the club has strong links with inland sailing clubs offering training facilities for complete beginners.
Taster· Unclear
A GYGSC Open Day was listed for 13 June 2026 and promoted boat-hopping, crewing opportunities, and beginner participation if conditions allowed, but a current 12 June 2026 notice says sailing at the open day was likely not possible because of very strong winds. Visitors were still invited to come, see facilities, and talk to members, with possible sailing on Sunday if conditions improved. No other current beginner taster session was found.

Boat hire
Club boats are available to hire to GYGSC members: two Lasers and an RS400.
