Conway Yacht Club is a Deganwy-based club on the Conwy Estuary with dinghy sailing, junior sailing, racing, cruising, regattas and open/taster activity.

Start

Can a beginner start here?

Dinghy sailing, Dinghy racing, Junior and youth sailing, Cruising, Keelboat racing, Regattas, Informal training, Taster sessions, Social activity

Beginner
The club has a current Start Sailing page for people who would like to learn, says the fun starts on day one, offers a taster sail and CYC skills progression, and says it supports new sailors.
Training
CYC offers its own skills progression route covering taster sailing, competent keelboat crew, confident keelboat skipper and introduction to racing. It states it is not a certified RYA Sail Training club and directs RYA courses to nearby clubs/Plas Menai.
Taster
A taster sail on a Conway One Design is offered for people who have never been on a sailing boat before. The page says there is no charge/free day membership and describes around 30 minutes preparation plus about an hour sailing as crew in Conwy Harbour.

Suitability

Juniors, families, and accessibility

Juniors
The club offers Family Membership and describes itself as for members of all ages and abilities. Its safeguarding policy covers children and young people during club activities or on club premises, but I did not find a dedicated junior sailing programme page.
Access· Unclear
The club publishes equality, diversity and inclusion commitments, including disability, and a code of conduct referring to sailing and rowing in an inclusive and accessible way. I found no practical access details for step-free access, accessible toilets, pontoon access, parking, or adaptive sailing.

Costs

Costs, membership, and boats

Prices

Membership rates as of 1 July 2026 are listed: Adult £140, Couples £215, Family £260, Young Person age 18-30 £55, Senior £95 and Senior Couples £170. The taster sail is listed as no charge/free day membership. I found no prices for skills progression courses or COD hire.

Membership

Official site says full members have full use of club facilities and joining forms are available through the club. The site promotes a friendly, community-focused club with junior sessions and open/taster sailing activity.

Boat hire
A club-hosted SailaCOD PDF says three Conway One Design boats are fully equipped and available to sail from the end of May, with experience essential and longer-term hire possible after familiarisation and subject to insurance. This is not beginner boat hire.
