The 2026 sail-training pages list RYA Stage 1 with no assumed knowledge, a two-day duration, minimum age 8 and basic launching, steering and sailing content. The private lessons page says beginners, improvers, racers and rusty sailors are welcome for tailored coaching using a club boat or their own boat.
Training
BSSC publishes a 2026 sail-training programme with RYA youth stages, race courses, seamanship, first aid, powerboat training, private lessons and coaching. Sail Training 2026 runs 3-8 August 2026 after briefings and boat checks on 2 August, with applications taken 1-10 March.
The checked official pages did not show a current public taster session, open day, or try-sailing date. The club offers private lessons and a structured sail-training programme, but no current standalone taster offer was confirmed.
The Juniors page says the junior fleet includes children aged 8-18 sailing Toppers, Lasers, Picos, RS Fevas, 2000s and Laser 3000s, with racing and social opportunities. The sail-training page also lists youth courses and expects parent volunteer support.

The membership page links to a current 2026 membership information PDF and the private lessons page lists five-hour on/off-water sessions at GBP 80 per session, split between up to six sailors per instructor. The sail-training page says course prices are per child but had TBC values when checked.
The juniors page says a few club boats can be taken out for a sail if a junior does not have a boat available or wants to try a different craft. Private lessons can also be delivered in BSSC boats including 2000, Argo, Feva or Topper. This is member/training club-boat use, not public hire.
